ADVOCACY
 
BOOBS works in the community to ensure breastfeeding policies, administrative health system regulations, and lactation care  services are planned and practiced to include all members of the community.  BOOBS works with community members in addition to local community investors to collectively improve the healthy start outcomes of our most vulnerable population.

COMMUNITY BABY SHOWER
 
BOOBS host an annual baby shower for mothers in the community.  The annual baby shower is an event filled with training, education and sharing of breastfeeding information along with gifts for expecting mothers.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH
 
BOOBS works in the community to educate, train, promote and advocate on the behalf of mothers who have expressed a desire to learn more about best infant feeding practices.In addition, professional culturally congruent and diversity sensitive trainings are offered to community health professionals to help increase the awareness of promoting breastfeeding among low income and African American women.

MOMMY YOGA WITH SOUL
 
BOOBS supports holistic health during pregnancy for mothers and baby. Pregnancy is a delicate and special time for mother and baby. Prenatal yoga is a healthy practice you can do for you and your baby. BOOBS offers mommy yoga with a touch of soul for expecting moms.

MOM & PEER SUPPORT GROUPS
 
Moms support breastfeeding groups are held for breastfeeding mothers and expectant mothers.  Support groups help mothers learn from one another's experiences and offer various trainings, help to answer questions and offer broader breastfeeding opportunities.
EVIDENCE BASED SHARING
 
BOOBS aims  to provide evidence based results to both the academic and healthcare communities in an effort to influence implementation of best policies, health care systems and positive perspectives towards breastfeeding.
Our 2020 evaluation data indicates a significant shift in intention to exclusively breastfeed and continue to breastfeed between the 1 - 6 months post partum.  This is a major finding! 

Latching issues can lead to premature breastfeeding cessation:

 

  • Latching assistance will be provided to help improve breastfeeding discomfort and/or inadequate milk intake

  • A thorough assessment will be conducted using a LAT accredited approved lactation tool

  • Assist with post partum latching per consent
